Southeast Asia needs Danish cleantech
On 7 - 10 September 2011, Malaysia will host the international greentech exhibition and conference IGEM 2011. But the region has more to offer, says the Danish Embassy in Malaysia.

Danish cleantech companies with the courage and desire to penetrate the Southeast Asian market are well positioned to take advantage of a number of business opportunities. The region is on the lookout for a range of skills and competencies, which Danish technologies and products hold. In September, Malaysia will repeat last year's exhibition success, IGEM, where 86,000 participants last year attended and visited the nearly 300 stands. Thus, the exhibition once again becomes a serious networking event for the many people visiting from around the world, as Malaysia is considered the international gateway to the region by many companies and investors.

- The past decade of rapid economic development in the region has led to an increasing awareness about the need for both public and private investments in sectors such as sustainable energy, waste technologies and drinking water supplies. All areas in which Danish companies have great opportunities to make profitable investments, says Jesper Højer, who works as a Cleantech and CDM Advisor for the Danish Embassy in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur.

During the summer and autumn, there will also be a number of other cleantech trade shows, where the Embassy will participate and have a stand, just as the Embassy itself is to host several mini-seminars on how Danish companies can take advantage of business opportunities in Southeast Asia.

The nine countries in the region are Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia and Laos. Together, they exceed 600 million inhabitants and have a combined GDP of USD 1,500 billion. Danish exports to the region have increased by an average of eight per cent in recent years, and in 2009, they totalled DKK 8.4 billion Jesper Højer informs.
