Great Demand for Biofuel from Aviation, Shipping and Heavy Road Transport
A well-attended seminar arranged by DI Bioenergi, Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster, SAS and The Sustainable Biofuel Network revealed that the transport sector is ready to take every drop of biofuel produced at a reasonable price level.

The aim of the seminar, held on April 28th, 2011, was to communicate the need for biofuel for three large transport sectors: aviation, shipping and heavy road transport, all of which are ready to use biofuel as soon as it is commercially viable. Participants at the seminar consisted of a broad range of players from within the biofuel industry, and speakers covered issues ranging from the production of crops to financial investments.
Three large buyers, Mærsk, SAS and SCANIA, were in attendance, and the political aspect was represented through the participation of the Danish Energy Agency.

Promising future

After a rewarding and informative day, it was concluded that the necessary resources for biofuel production are indeed present, and that the future of the sector looks promising. The transport sector emphasized its readiness to prioritize suppliers able to provide biofuel, and with a price level matching the market, the sector will have a demand large enough to take all the biofuel produced.  Moreover, the importance of assuring the production of biofuel for aviation, shipping and heavy road transport was stressed, as there are no alternative fuels for these types of transport.
Representatives from the sector further added that biofuel is the best logical and economical solution, at least in the case of heavy road transport, aside from possibly being part of the solution to the challenge of high CO2 emission rates for all of the industry.
