- CCC Part of Cleantech Capital Day
- Before Easter, 180 participants from the Scandinavian Cleantech sector gathered in Copenhagen for the 10th edition of Cleantech Capital Day organised by Cleantech Scandinavia, which is one of Scandinavia's leading network of cleantech investors.
Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster was a partner at the event and helped establish contact with CCC's players as the event largely focused on promoting access to venture capital for small and medium-sized cleantech companies. Several of the presentations at Cleantech Capital Day explained new business models for funding and corporate venture capital's role in cleantech investing, and there were also more than 300 one-to-one meetings between investors and start-ups
- We supported the event to promote access to venture capital for
the cluster companies, to meet potential partners and to market
Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster. It was a good event with a targeted
focus on discussing funding opportunities for cleantech companies
and generate deal flow, which is always interesting when start-ups
- which is tomorrow's potential successful companies - present
their proposals for tomorrow's solutions," says Consultant in the
CCC, Michael Johansen.
No Danish finalist
As a prelude to the Cleantech Capital Day, the first final of the
Nordic Cleantech Open was held. Here, 10 out of 80 start-up
companies had made it through to the final. The Nordic Cleantech
Open is a new start-up competition with aims to identify, upgrade
and highlight the very best of the upcoming Nordic cleantech
companies. The Swedes were well represented with five participating
companies in front of Norway's three and Finland's two companies,
and it was also the Swedes who came in first, second and third,
with Ecospark on top of the podium - chosen by a jury and the
audience. Ecospark is a small business, which has developed a LED
lighting that is not only more efficient than existing ones, but
also up to 10 times more cheap to produce. No Danish company made
it through to the final, which nags Nicolai Sederberg, Head of
Secretariat of CCC.
- We have a strong entrepreneurial tradition in Denmark, also in
the field of cleantech. I am therefore confident that the lack of
Danish companies in the final is not an indication that we do not
have the skills, but rather, it is due to the fact that Danish
entrepreneurs have not heard about the competition. Next year, we
will try to create more awareness about the competition, which
companies need to sign up for in the autumn, says Michael
Johansen.
