- Risø DTU heads European project worth millions
- A project with laser scanners in wind farms worth DKK 335-450 millions is a giant step forward for Danish research. Risø DTU is to lead a consortium that shall test and develop wind measurements in wind farms across Europe.
The project is called "Windscanner" and the results will be used
to create a detailed map of wind conditions in wind farms. By using
three measuring instruments consisting of the so-called Lidars
(Light Detection And Raging Instruments), where a laser beam's
reflections from particles in the air are registered and analysed,
the windscanner can measure wind speed, direction and atmospheric
turbulence in the rotor plan. By coupling three lidar systems, it
is possible to create a 3D image of the wind conditions in a wind
farm.
Germany, Greece, Spain, Holland, Norway and Portugal also take part
in the project, and with this project, Risø DTU joins the European
Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures.
For many years, Risø DTU has worked with lasers to map wind
conditions, and as Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster has previously
described, Risø DTU has comprehensive knowledge of precisely this
area. Read the story
