- Climate & Energy Minister moves on to the offensive, pushing business agreements on cleantech
- Last month, Climate & Energy Minister Lykke Friis signed agreements with Mexico and Russia on cooperation on the areas of climate and energy. It will benefit the Danish cleantech sector, the minister says.
- In an international perspective, Danish cleantech is at the absolute forefront. This makes Denmark a particularly interesting partner for Mexico, which have not yet made any real results within energy efficiency and deployment of renewable energy in the power system. Areas in which Denmark holds extensive knowledge and expertise. So this agreement is a win-win situation - for the benefit of both bottom line results and the climate, the Minister for Climate and Energy, Lykke Friis says.
In regards to the agreement with Russia, it can be particularly valuable to companies working with energy efficiency and renewable energy.
- It benefits Danish companies, ensures transfer of energy technology and creates new sustainable climate projects in Russia, Lykke Friis says.
The energy's sleeping giant
The agreements will offer a series of workshops, conferences and company visits both between Denmark and Mexico and Denmark and Russia, and result in great exchanges of experience between Denmark and the two countries. In particular, focus is on areas such as electricity and renewable energy, energy efficiency, oil, gas and biofuels. Denmark holds excellent competencies in all these fields, but with great knowledge within especially the energy area, Denmark is particularly strong in this field.
- Energy efficiency is the climate policy's sleeping giant, in the sense that the more efficiently we use energy, the easier it becomes to achieve the objectives that are discussed in international climate negotiations, the minister states.
Dates for meetings and participants in relation to the agreements with Mexico and Russia are still to be decided, but only until the agreements have been made more specific. Similar agreements with other countries will be entered as and when the interest in Danish technologies arise, the ministry states.
