Kalundborg municipality's busy commercial port, thriving business community and beautiful nature, makes the town an attractive place to live and work. The municipality has around 49.000 inhabitants and approx. 4.900 full time employed.

Kalundborg - Greener solutions

Taking the second place after the municipality of Copenhagen, the municipality of Kalundborg is the largest industrial area on Zealand. In Kalundborg it is possible to locate the world's two largest enzyme and insulin productions, North Europe's biggest industrial waste water plant and the Baltic Sea's next to biggest oil refinery. No later than in 2009, the world's biggest demonstration facility for second generation bioethanol joined the list of industrial plants in Kalundborg.
Due to its industrial magnitude, the municipality has chosen to put great focus on energy efficiency and to increase sustainability. The municipality of Kalundborg has through a number of years worked to promote more sustainable and climate friendly solutions, not the lease because of the high natural energy consumption of its industry.

Denmarks Green municiplaity 2020

As 9% of Denmark's CO2 emission comes from Kalundborg, the municipality only perceives it as natural to be a forerunner in the battle towards climate change. In order to contribute to a more sustainable energy and environmental model, the municipality of Kalundborg has initiated a number of climate, energy and environmentally friendly activities in a close collaboration with the industry.
These activities and initiatives are all steps on the path towards the ambitious goal of making Kalundborg to Denmark's green industrial municipality by 2020.
