In March 2007, EU leaders agreed to cut CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020, (30% if global targets can be agreed on), and to set a binding 20% target for the use of renewable energy sources. The EU currently takes an active part in negotiations for a post-Kyoto climate regime.
The EU's fight against climate change goes hand-in-hand with an ambitious energy policy. The challenge is to spark a new industrial revolution that will deliver a low-energy economy, whilst making the energy we consume more secure.
