Copenhagen Capacity receives UN award

Copenhagen Capacity is given UN award for “excellence in the promotion of green investment”, particularly because of their involvement in the establishment of Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster and attraction of green investments.

The United Nations have elected Copenhagen Capacity the best regional investment promotion agency in the world for their support of the cleantech sector and attraction of international companies.

It is the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) that presents the award and it was awarded to Copenhagen Capacity based on their central role in the establishment of Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster. Copenhagen Capacity's concentrated efforts to attract investment and businesses support and promote the Danish cleantech sector.

- It is a very pleasant surprise, especially since many countries and investment promotion agencies like us have devoted many resources to the promotion of their cleantech activities. With the establishment of Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster, we have managed to create a strong link between business promotion and investment promotion, where universities, companies and organisations work closely together, Managing Director of Copenhagen Capacity, Steen Donner, explains.

Global attention

Paul Wessendorp, Head of UN's investment department gave his opinion on why Copenhagen Capacity is the best in the world. Amongst others, he stressed Copenhagen Capacity's promotion of Copenhagen as leading within green technologies, and the organsation's contribution to Copenhagen's overall strategy to become the first CO2-neutral capital in the world.

This kind of attention opens doors all over the world, where many countries and large cities compete to be the "greenest of the green".

- In a global context, an award for being the best regional investment promotion agency in the world within the cleantech area is of great significance, because in an international context, we are very small. Therefore, we have to do things more intelligently and more focused to positively separate ourselves from the crowd. With this award, I already now notice an increased interest in the competencies we can offer and in the companies located in the Capital Region, Steen Donner says.
